‘Bat Yam’, Mermaid

2015, Digital Print, 30X20

The entirely swathed female figure frightened and intrigued me. The performative space allowed me to dare wear the garment, and to examine the physical and emotional sensations it created within me. This action helped me to separate this piece of clothing from my customary feminist political opinions. I was surprised by the pleasant experience this garment created for me, and by the enjoyment of being hidden in space, while on the other hand being much more conspicuous.

The resulting image is an attempt to create a female icon, perhaps modern, perhaps ancient. The conspicuousness versus the evanescence, stability and disintegration, the bare abandoned structure versus the draped, clad body.
